SeekShot

Privacy & Data

Last updated: 2025 (first edition)

Your images never leave your device.

Our Approach

SeekShot runs all processing locally. Image analysis, feature extraction, search — none of it is sent to an external server. No internet connection is required. This is a deliberate design choice, and it won't change.

What We Store

To build the search index, SeekShot generates and stores the following data in a local SQLite database on your Mac:

  • File metadata (path, last modified date)
  • Visual similarity features (dHash, pHash, Vision Feature Print, color histogram)
  • CLIP embedding vectors for semantic search
  • Face feature vectors for face search
  • OCR text extracted from images (full text and line-by-line)
  • Pin data

None of this data is ever transmitted externally.

Models & Frameworks

Semantic search uses the MobileCLIP model, bundled with the app and run entirely on-device. Image analysis and OCR use Apple's CoreML and Vision Framework.

iCloud

SeekShot does not use iCloud. Index data and pins are stored only on your local Mac — no iCloud sync or sharing occurs. Images and videos stored in iCloud only (not downloaded locally) are excluded from processing.

Background Monitoring

When enabled, Background Monitoring continues updating the index even when the app is closed. Like the rest of SeekShot, it makes no external network requests.
